Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) are an emerging clean energy technology that convert chemical energy directly into electricity. In this study, we performed a PEMFC simulation using ANSYS Fluent to analyze the transport phenomena within the cell.
The model captures key processes including reactant gas flow, proton transport through the membrane, and water management within the cell. Serpentine flow field designs of different channel widths were analyzed, and the resulting pressure, velocity, and current density distributions were obtained. The comparison highlights how varying serpentine channel sizes influence reactant utilization, water distribution, and overall cell performance.
This numerical experiment demonstrates how advanced computational techniques can be applied to study the internal behavior of PEMFCs, enabling better understanding of their efficiency, durability, and optimization for practical applications
